Sometimes there’s a clear way that I can mark these occasions, even if I don’t own the materials required to do so. For example, today is Play Your Ukulele Day but I don’t own the instrument, yet there’s a music shop in the city centre that I could have popped into, picked up a ukulele, had my photo taken and then left. But I didn’t. I forgot.
Instead I stretched elastic bands across a cereal bowl and played George Formby’s ‘When I’m Cleaning Windows’ in the kitchen. I heartily recommend giving it a go; just make sure to empty the bowl of its cereal first because now I have to clean the floor, never mind the windows.
