As we went into the next couple of weeks of the lockdown, I had to find even more creative ways to celebrate the different Days. I know that a lot of them call for hanging out with friends or going out, but with technology, we had plenty of opportunities to get creative!
I tried to shift my focus from feeling stuck at home to feeling safe at home and controlling and celebrating what I could in my own house. So I hope that you had a good month and that you are safe at home. Here is what I got up to.
This month was always going to be a busy one for me but even more so now that I have had some more time at home! I have always wanted to have a functional garden and last year I started the long conversion to getting it the way I wanted. I did manage to set up a couple of greenhouses!
This year I wanted to focus on growing our own vegetables and bolstering my herbs as they were looking a bit worse for wear! This month, however, has seen so much growth and progression in my garden! Here are a few photos of the things I am growing.
I have to say I am very much enjoying watching everything grow and come to life. I have a lot of plants that are for later in the year but this should feed us through the summer months quite nicely!
I am not a baker by any stretch of the imagination. But I thought that the situation called for at least an attempt to make bread. I had a look at the recipe for making sourdough bread and geez that is a lot more then I was willing to take on for my first loaf of bread!
I had to take a more straightforward route to make bread! I wanted to have the easiest recipe to come out with something edible! I found this video on YouTube that promised great things for the least amount of work!
And it worked! I am pleasantly surprised how well this has worked! I am not a baker like I said, I don’t have the patience for it. But this was really easy to do and will quickly become a fave to do on a weekend now!
I have for years wanted to have a veg plot in my garden! It was one os the things that I promised myself when we bought our house. That was 7 years ago now and I am only now getting round to sorting it out!
Over the past month I have been working on the garden and getting it ready for the new growing season! but one thing that I had got started before I got the veg plots ready was my carrots.
They still have a long way to go but they are coming along nicely and I just have to thin them out when they get a bit bigger and then I can make carrot soup!
I love going to a zoo! It is one of the best things to do when visiting a new city – you know if they have one. But with the situation as it was there were no zoo visits planned for this years Zoo Lovers Day. Well that was until zoos around the world started to braodcast their webcams of the different animals.
My particular favorite was Chester Zoo in the UK. They were doing daily zoo tours with the different animals. yes productivity took a bit of a dipp but can you blame me when they were showing us round the meerkat mob!
Sharing on their Facebook page these guys have been amazing sharing their love of animals with us all via live streams everyday! Because even though they are not open to the public they still have a lot of responsibilities to look after all the animals.
Every body loves this day! It’s a chance for people to share their love of their furbabies! Well not just fur, but feathers and scales as well. And always you guys did not dissapoint! You shared so many photos of your pets, I love seeing these photos.
I had to share my boy with you guys as well, he is the white and ginger on the right. The other is next doors kitten that Patch (my cat) has taken under his paw to show him the ropes of the neighborhood and that there is a path in the garden for a reason.
I recently got a bunch of new toys for him as well and the little tunnel that came with the pack of toys is the best thing ever apparently! Keep in mind he is 12 years old and still plays like a 6-month-old kitten. I hope you treated your pet this Pet Day, or if you are like me every day!
Okay, I know that with the current state of affairs a lot more of us are working from home and are most likely working in our pj’s but after 7 years of working at home, I actually get dressed in the morning.
I know the temptation to stay in your pj’s all days is strong but a, as normal as possible routine is the best thing to do when working from home. But some days you just need to have a slow day in your pj’s!
Whether you wear a snugly robe with cushy slippers, a superhero PJ set or onesie sleepers with attached fluffy bunny booties, dress for successful comfort on Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day.
We had had some amazing weeks of weather here and Hanging Out Day was actually celebrated pretty much every day! I know that my american friends get really confused by this but this is something that a lot of people rely on.
Hanging Out Day encourages you to use a drying line instead of your dryer as a way to help the environment. It also strives to bring awareness to the benefits of air-drying clothes.
We hadn’t always had a dryer so drying things outdoors was essential and even though we do have a dryer now I would much rather prefer to put the washing out on the line than in the dryer! There is nothing like freshly air-dried bedding to crawl into on a night the smell of the outdoors in your bed is so calming.
You may or may not know that I am British, so this is a very big day for me! Not only am I British but I also live in Yorkshire so having a cup of tea is essential for me.
I love trying new teas and I have a bunch of loose leaves that I am enjoying. What’s even better is that you can even use these as cold brews, which has been great during the sunny spell we have been having!
This has to be one of my fave tea brands, they have so much choice and they create different flavours through out the year as well. You can even get a subscription with them as well and tea just turns up on your doorstep!
Time to jump on the Serenity and put the Alliance at your stern. I have always been a huge fan of Joss Whedon, Buffy and Angel hold a special place in my heart. but when Firefly came onto our screens, omg, this rich world sucked me in.
There is nothing like re-watching a old favourite. Get tucked up on the sofa with a fellow fan and just re-living the whole series and the movie as well!
In 2018 I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to visit Chernobyl. It was something that I had always had in the back of my head as a place that I wanted to visit but I hadn’t really done any research into what had actually happened there.
I spent some time reading and watching as much as I possible could to find out what had happened and what is still happening there, because even though people can’t live in the exclusion zone people are still working on containing the reactor.
Walking around Pryp’yat’ is fascinating and I know that is a strange way to describe it but the stillness there is ghostly. There is a silence there that I don’t think I have ever experienced.
Like many, I had no idea of the level of damage that had been done and like many I watched the HBO series and having been there and watching this was hard. I think after being there I have a great level of respect for those still working on containing it.
They are doing incredible work there and have recently had to deal with fires releasing more radiation.
April has really been a month and May is looking to be the same. But I have a whole bunch of Days picked out to celebrate! I can not wait to give them a go. I hope you are all staying safe!
