Random Acts of Kindness

With so much happening in the world of late we can sometimes forget how good it feels to help one another or brighten each other’s day. Sometimes it’s the smallest act that makes the biggest impact, something as simple as saying please or thank you can turn a day around, and make a life seem that much better.

Random Acts of Kindness Day started with the simple task of making the world a better place by spreading a little light around. Lift someone up with your words, compliment them on their appearance, all these things can help to really turn around someone who’s having a bad day. There are so many ways in which you can brighten up the day of those around you.

Why not buy a gift for someone who is not expecting it? Or share your knowledge on a subject that someone is struggling with. Another way to share kindness could be to buy the coffee of the person behind you in Starbucks while saying “thank you very much” to the person serving you. These simple things can make such a positive impact on someone’s day and they, in turn, may pass on that kindness that you have shared with them.

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” – Leo Buscaglia

While sharing a little sunshine with strangers can feel rewarding why not start at home as well and improve the lives of those you live with. Maybe get rid of those boxes that have been sat on the side for a few days without being asked, or perhaps fix that leaky tap that has been driving someone around the bend. Doing a simple task around the house that has been put off and annoy your family or significant other will make show them some extra kindness.

Not only will you feel rewarded in doing something kind for them they will feel that little bit more positive in this topsy-turvy world. So don’t forget something small to brighten someone day can make a world of difference.
