Pulmonary diseases construct the airflow in the lungs, causing numerous symptoms such as difficulty breathing, daily coughing, and wheezing. These diseases can also lead to other health problems including heart disease, depression, and frequent respiratory infections.

Because of how common pulmonary diseases are, pulmonary rehabilitation can provide an avenue for treatment and healing that doctors may not always present.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week aims to raise awareness about the severity of pulmonary diseases, offer treatment options, and celebrate the recovery of those with those illnesses.

History of Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week

Founded by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, or AACVPR, pulmonary rehabilitation has become an effective way for those with lung diseases to heal and manage those diseases.

Pulmonary diseases, such as COPD, Emphysema, and Chronic Bronchitis, can significantly affect the lives of people by limiting their ability to interact with the world around them and can lead to worse conditions which include heart problems, high blood pressure, and lung cancer.

AACVPR aims to further research into the causes and potential treatments for lung and heart diseases by offering education programs, journals, and data registries to educate people about these conditions further.

Throughout this event, hospitals and medical centers all over the world take the time to plan each week, such as starting fundraisers, host classes for educational value, and teach people valuable life skills needed to manage their lung diseases.

Some host gaming nights such as Bingo and Jeopardy and other medical facilities take the time to thank their co-workers and patients for all of the hard work they have made to help others recover and manage their pulmonary diseases.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week aims to show the accomplishments people make in treatment, further educating people about the most recent methods, and aiding in helping others understand how pulmonary diseases affect lives.

How to Celebrate Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week

Celebrate Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week by planning with your co-workers days to highlight and award your patients for their success. Hand out flyers with pulmonary rehab benefits.

Make lung-healthy foods for your patients in your office. Host games and themed days throughout the week to educate those about pulmonary diseases and celebrate those who have successfully recovered from their treatments.
