History of National Robotics Week
National Robotics Week began in 2010 after a group of scientists, engineers, and educators teamed up to promote robotics in the United States.
In 2009, over 140 experts worked on a national robotics plan and asked the U.S. House of Representatives to support their idea.
Their goal was to raise awareness, get more students interested in science, and show how robots help in everyday life. That effort led to a House resolution that officially recognized one week in April for robotics.
The first celebration took place later that year, with around 50 events across the country. Museums, schools, labs, and tech companies opened their doors to the public.
People of all ages got the chance to see robots in action, learn from experts, and even try coding for the first time.
Each year, the week kept growing. By 2011, it reached over 20 states and U.S. territories. Just a few years later, all 50 states joined in with more than 300 activities.
Today, iRobot helps organize the week, working with others to keep it fresh and fun.
National Robotics Week continues to bring people together to learn, explore, and imagine what robots can do next.
