Nick Cannon's birthday
Rapper and TV host Nicholas Scott Cannon was born on October 8th, 1980, in San Diego, California, where he spent most of his early years being raised mostly by his paternal grandfather. During his teenage years, Cannon was part of a rap group called “Da G4 Dope Bomb Squad,” which performed on stage before several famous rappers figures, such as Will Smith and Montell Jordan. In 2001, he was signed to independent record label Jive Records, where he was featured on the animation film Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius soundtrack. Two years later he released his debut self-titled album (2003.) Cannon created his own record label, Can-I-Ball, in 2005 and released his second album, Stages, that same year. He also produced and hosted Wild ‘N Out on MTV, an improv comedy series, as well as the Nickelodeon’s 2005 Kids’ Choice Award.
In 2009, Cannon dissolved his old label to form a new one: N’Credible Entertainment. A year later, he created “Stick Rick,” a hip-hop parody of rapper Slick Rick, releasing two songs in freestyle rap. During this time, Cannon premiered a mixtape, called Child of the Corn (2010) and created and co-hosted The Nightlife, a dance-themed TV series, on the TV channel Teen Nick. In 2011, Cannon became the host of an annual eating competition, Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. From 2009 to 2016, he served as host of the popular contest show, America’s Got Talent.
Nick announced in 2003 that he was working on his second studio album (his previous album had never been released), White People Party Music (2014). The year 2013 saw the revival of Cannon’s Wild ‘N Out show, at the hands of his production company. The show returned for a fifth season, and was renewed for two more seasons (with the 8th and final one premiering in 2016.) Cannon became host of the documentary reality TV show, Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon, in 2014, which ran for three seasons on the NBC network. In November 2016, Nick released his second mixtape, The Gospel of Ike Turn Up: My Side of Story, followed by a single, “Hold on,” on iTunes.
In 2021, Nick appeared as host in the fifth season of The Masked Singer. Through his production company, Cannon led a daytime talk show, named Nick Cannon, which began in late 2021 up to March 2022. Currently, Nick is the host of radio show “Nick Cannon Mornings” at Los Angeles’ Power 106 station.
