Cleaning for a Reason Week
Cleaning for a Reason Week is a special time when cleaning companies, donors, and communities come together to support people going through cancer treatment.
During this week, the goal is to bring in more cleaning partners, raise money, and help more households with free cleaning services.
Volunteers and professional cleaners pitch in to give homes a thorough clean. This effort lets patients rest more and worry less about chores. It also helps raise awareness and funds so the program can grow.
Each cleaning partner offers two free cleanings—one per month—for families facing cancer. Patients report that a clean space lifts their mood, eases their stress, and gives them a small sense of control.
Cleaning professionals see the real change this brings. Shared stories show this support stays in people’s hearts long after the scrubbers are gone.
During the week, every sweep, scrub, and mop becomes more than tidy—it becomes a simple and sincere gesture of care that makes a difficult time feel lighter.
How to Celebrate Cleaning for a Reason Week
Here are some easy and meaningful ways to take part in Cleaning for a Reason Week. Every action, big or small, can help.
Team Up with Local Cleaners
Reach out to nearby cleaning companies and ask if they support cancer patients. Some may already partner with the program.
Others might join if they learn about it. Spread the word, and connect willing businesses with the right tools.
Sponsor a Cleaning Session
Donate to cover a home cleaning for someone in treatment. Even a single session makes a difference. Contributions help serve more families and expand the effort.
Giving this kind of care brings real comfort.
Tell a Friend
Share the message online or in person. Many still don’t know about this program. Posting on social media helps more people find support or offer help.
Use clear, kind words to invite others in.
Thank a Volunteer
Send a thank-you note to someone who cleans for those in need. These helpers give their time and skill. A simple message of gratitude goes a long way. You can brighten their day with just a few kind lines.
Set Up a Local Drive
Collect supplies like gloves, sprays, or paper towels for a nearby cleaning partner. Tools matter for each job. Check first to see what they need. Helping them stay stocked lets them keep going strong.
History of Cleaning for a Reason Week
Cleaning for a Reason Week grew out of a simple but powerful moment. In 2006, Debbie Sardone owned a small cleaning business in Texas.
One day, a woman with cancer called and said she couldn’t afford help while going through treatment.
That conversation stayed with Sardone. She told her staff they would never turn away someone in that situation again. Soon after, she founded Cleaning for a Reason to provide free house cleanings for cancer patients.
What started locally quickly grew. Cleaning companies from across the country joined the cause. In 2017, the organization became part of ISSA Charities, the charitable arm of the worldwide cleaning industry group ISSA.
That move helped the mission reach even more people across the United States and Canada. To bring wider attention to the work, Cleaning for a Reason Week was introduced.
This special week spotlights the nonprofit’s purpose and encourages others to join the effort. It draws in sponsors, donors, and cleaning partners. Thousands of cancer patients have received help thanks to the program.
Each free cleaning offers relief during a tough time. Instead of worrying about chores, families can focus on care and rest. The group continues to grow and clean with compassion every year.
