Find Your Inner Nerd Day
Find Your Inner Nerd Day is all about dropping the mask and letting your quirks lead the way. Love space facts? Obsessed with board games? Can’t stop quoting movie lines? This is your moment.
The day encourages people to lean into what excites them, no matter how odd, niche, or wildly specific it may seem. It turns the stuff we usually keep to ourselves into something worth celebrating out loud.
More than anything, it’s about feeling seen. People who might’ve once hidden their weirdest hobbies now get to wear them like a badge. You scroll through the hashtag and suddenly realize—you’re not alone.
Someone else gets it. Whether it’s a love for old maps or an obsession with insects, those odd little joys start to feel like something bigger. Something worth sharing.
How to Celebrate Find Your Inner Nerd Day
Here are some friendly and fun ideas to honor your inner nerd:
Host a mini hobby swap
Gather small items tied to your interests—comic books, dice sets, model pieces—and invite friends. Encourage everyone to trade. This sparks conversation and helps you connect with fellow fans.
Stream a Fandom movie marathon
Pick a theme—sci‑fi, fantasy, classic animation—and invite others to watch with you. Popcorn optional. This creates a shared experience and makes the day feel special.
Take part in a board game evening
Choose a strategy or role‑play game. Set aside distractions. Invite pals to compete or collaborate. Games like D&D or Catan work well, and local shops often host public nights.
Share your passion online
Post your interest—whether Star Wars models or coding projects—using #FindYourInnerNerdDay. Connect with others who share your passion for the same things.
Try a themed creative project
Dive into a hands‑on task tied to your nerdy side. Build a mini science experiment kit or sketch fan art. Make something that shows your enthusiasm.
Visit a local comic or hobby store
Explore shelves filled with graphic novels, figures, cards, or tech gear. Chat with staff or fellow shoppers. It sparks ideas and often leads to new findings.
Invite others to nerd out together
Reach out to a friend and ask about their hidden interest. Then plan something that lets both of you embrace your quirky side by side.
History of Find Your Inner Nerd Day
Find Your Inner Nerd Day began in 2022 thanks to Beth Ziesenis, a speaker and author who loves tech and quirky fun.
She created the day to give people a chance to share their true interests, especially the ones they might usually keep quiet.
Her goal was simple: make people feel proud of what they love, no matter how odd or specific it seems. Whether someone builds robots, collects comics, or obsesses over coding languages, the day makes space for all of it.
Beth’s nickname, “Your Nerdy Best Friend,” became the heart of the idea. Her background in making tech more friendly and fun helped her connect with people who once felt unsure about sharing what they love.
She chose August 23 for a special reason. Back in 2007, someone used the phrase “find your inner nerd” in a tweet. Beth saw it as the perfect start. Over time, she built the day around that simple message.
The hashtag #FindYourInnerNerdDay helped it spread across social media. In 2026, National Day Calendar officially added it to their list.
That move helped more people discover it and join in. Now, it’s a day where people proudly post, play, and geek out together—without apology.
