What nicer thing can you do for somebody than make them breakfast?

Anthony Bourdain

Breakfast is often said to be the most important meal of the day, and that’s why so many of us make a point of getting up in the morning and pouring ourselves a bowl of our favorite cereal. If not cereal, than a cold bagel smeared with cream cheese, and if we’re in a particular hurry, then we’ll have a protein bar or one of the many breakfast bars on the market to see us through the day.

National Hot Breakfast Month encourages us to break this cycle of coldness and start the day off HOT!

History of National Hot Breakfast Month

National Hot Breakfast Month was established to encourage people to get up and start their day with a meal that’s a bit more substantial than a simple bowl of cereal. Breakfast is an important meal of the day, that much is true, but taking the time to get up in the morning, prepare breakfast, and take the time to sit down and eat a freshly cooked meal is a great start to the day as well.

It’s not just about the meal, though there’s something about bacon and eggs for breakfast with a hot toasted English Muffin smeared with butter that just makes the day better, it’s also about taking the time to take care of yourself and spend a little time on something special.

How many of us grew up with the smell of a hot breakfast floating through the house? Mom wouldn’t dream of sending her kids or her husband off to their day without a hearty breakfast to carry them through. Breakfast helps us feel better, to see our way through to lunch without losing focus and without having our stomach grumbling at us that it’s empty. It also helps our brains function, and education research has shown that it helps to ensure that the students absorb the information.

Add in the time spent on yourself while preparing it, and you’re feeling awake and alert after giving yourself a proper amount of time to wake up. National Hot Breakfast Month encourages you to take this extra care of yourself for a month, and we’ll bet you’ll keep doing it the rest of the year!

How to celebrate National Hot Breakfast Month

It’s pretty simple, just get up and make yourself a hot breakfast! Even if all you have to eat is a warm bowl of Cream of Wheat with butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup you’ll feel better all the day long! Don’t let that keep you from a cold glass of orange juice though!
