National Erase Self-Negativity Day
Some studies have shown that 80% of the thoughts running through an average person’s mind are negative – tipping the scale much too far away from the positive thoughts that most people desire!
To live healthy and happy lives, people may need to do a bit of work to create thought habits that are more positive, beneficial and healthy.
National Erase Self-Negativity Day shines the spotlight on the need that basically everyone has to work toward having a more positive thought life!
How to Celebrate National Erase Self-Negativity Day
Learn Strategies to Eliminate Negative Self-Talk
While each person is different and certain things might work for some and not others, professionals have a number of different resources to offer that can help individuals who want to cut back on the negative narrative in their minds.
It starts simply by replacing the negative thoughts with positive ones and moving forward with other tools from there. Consider implementing some of these in honor of National Erase Self-Negativity Day:
- Try self compassion
- Speak to that inner critic with kindness and acceptance
- Practice mindfulness and meditation
- Implement a self-care routine to promote calmness and reduce stress
Get Support from Friends
Folks who want to make life changes are much more likely to succeed if they can get their communities involved.
Encourage friends, coworkers and family members to share in celebrating National Erase Self-Negativity Day and have some fun with it by being mutually encouraging and lifting each other up.
See a Counselor or Therapist
As part of other mental health promotional events, National Erase Self-Negativity Day acts as a reminder that sometimes people need a bit of a boost to keep their lives moving in the right direction.
Those who have concerns about negative self-talk might consider booking an appointment with a counselor or therapist to get some help and tools.
History of National Erase Self-Negativity Day
National Erase Self-Negativity Day is one of the more newly established days, with the inaugural celebration taking place in 2024.
The event was sponsored through a collaboration between the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Dr. Elizabeth Scott, and the Pilot Pen Corporation of America.
The purpose and hope for this day is that it will become a movement of women and men who learn how to better support themselves (and each other) by working to counteract the negative train of thoughts and self-talk that runs through many people’s brains.
While it might feel like an impossible task to simply stop certain ways of thinking, it is actually possible to retrain the brain how to think about things.
Whereas negative self-talk sounds a lot like a bully in the brain, positive self-talk flips the script to something that includes a bit of grace, hope, forgiveness and recognition that everyone is human and makes mistakes.
Get connected with National Erase Self-Negativity Day and join forces with so many others who are working to make their lives, and the world, a more positive place to be!
