National Fruit at Work Day
Enjoy a healthy and happy breakfast or snack at work when celebrating National Fruit at Work Day!
History of National Fruit at Work Day
Founded by The FruitGuys in 1998, National Fruit at Work Day is meant to promote the health benefits of eating fruit as a snack. In lieu of candy bars or junk food, The FruitGuys believe that it’s a better idea to bring a piece of fruit to work to munch on throughout the day.Â
Grabbing an apple, an orange or a banana offers a delicious morning snack or a much-needed afternoon pick-me-up. But it comes without all of the refined sugars and empty calories that come in some other types of snacks.
Plus, fruit comes in edible and/or compostable packaging which means there’s no wrapper to throw away and it’s a more sustainable option for the earth! So head over to the farmer’s market or grocery store and stock up on those fruits that will provide a delicious, nutritious breakfast or snack in honor of National Fruit at Work Day!Â
How to Celebrate National Fruit at Work Day
Enjoy the health benefits of fruit by celebrating National Fruit at Work Day with some of these ideas:
Bring Some Fruit to Work
Some fruits have a longer shelf life than others but some fruits, like apples and oranges, can last for weeks. So instead of trying to remember to bring one piece of fruit each day, perhaps it would work better to bring in a whole bag of apples or a couple of pounds of oranges that can be enjoyed for a week or two. Some fruits can be brought to work but might need to be kept in a refrigerator for them to stay fresh longer.
Grapes, mango, kiwi fruit, pears and peaches. The options are almost endless when it comes to enjoying different types and kinds of fruit. And even within fruit categories, different varieties can be enjoyed, like apples that offer more than 7,000 kinds – although most grocery stores carry maybe 5-10 varieties.
