It’s love that makes the world go ‘round! And life is more pleasant when humans are kind and show love to each other. The perfect time to celebrate and test out this concept is with National Love People Day.

History of National Love People Day

National Love People Day was created by a church in Chicago, Illinois in 2017. The impetus behind the day was related to the group’s desire to reach out to other people to show them how much they are loved, valuing relationships, family, and love. With random acts of kindness, giving away cars to single moms and even performing home makeovers, the idea is sometimes taken to the extreme.

But National Love People Day doesn’t have to be extreme. It can also be enjoyed by participating in the little things in life that show love to everyone around. And the good news is that it doesn’t take a lot of time–it can often be done in just a few minutes, or even a few seconds!

Now it’s time to celebrate National Love People Day!

How to Celebrate National Love People Day

Leave a little note to say “I Love You”, give a faraway friend a call or post a sweet message on the wall of a family member to tell them that they are loved on National Love People Day! Try out some of these other ideas to join in on celebration of the day:

Perform Random Acts of Kindness

Help a person at the store to their car with their groceries, give someone at work a compliment, let someone cut in line in front of you, give up a seat on a crowded bus or subway, or leave a positive comment on a blog or online news article. Or “pay it forward” at the drive through by paying for the order of the person just behind. It’s fun to be creative and look for ways to love the people in the neighborhood.

Serve in the Local Community

One important part of National Love People Day is reaching out into the community in ways that might not be usual. Take advantage of the opportunities on this day to find a service project to help someone in need. Volunteer at a soup kitchen, help out at a homeless shelter, make a donation to a charity or sign up to read to the elderly at a nursing home. Communities always have tons of opportunities to show people they are loved, so get into the spirit of the day and help out a little!

Listen to Songs About Love

  • Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson. By the King of Pop, this song is all about making a change in oneself in order to make the world a better place.
  • One Tribe by Black Eyed Peas. This song encourages people to forget conflict and join hands in connection.
  • What About Now by Daughtry. Encouraging the listener to act in the moment and show love.
