National Online Recovery Day
Recovery doesn’t always begin in a room full of people—it can start with a screen and a single click. National Online Recovery Day shines a light on how powerful digital support can be.
People facing substance use struggles often feel alone, but online resources offer a lifeline. With just a connection to the internet, they can find groups, guidance, and hope. That kind of access can mean everything.
The heart of this day is about reaching more people, wherever they are. Online tools break through the shame, the travel limits, the cost. They let folks ask for help in their own time, on their own terms. That freedom makes recovery feel more possible.
National Online Recovery Day celebrates that simple but life-changing idea—help can meet you where you are.

History of National Online Recovery Day
National Online Recovery Day started in 2020. Lionrock, a company offering online care for substance use, launched the idea.
They wanted to bring attention to the growing role of virtual support in addiction recovery. Many people still don’t know that help is available without leaving home. This day works to change that.
The founders chose this path after seeing how hard it was for some to access in-person care. Stigma, travel, cost, and privacy concerns often stop people from getting the support they need.
Online treatment removes many of those barriers. It offers comfort, safety, and flexibility. People can join meetings, get counseling, and connect with others from their own space.
The National Day Calendar made the observance official in July 2020. Since then, it has helped spread the word across the country. Organizations, individuals, and recovery communities use the day to promote digital tools that save lives.
National Online Recovery Day continues to grow. It reflects how care and connection can thrive in digital spaces. It reminds us that recovery support doesn’t have to wait—it’s only a few clicks away.
