Focus on celebrating the beauty of people of all shapes and sizes, focusing on body positivity, and pushing away the societal norms that indicate people need to be skinny. Despite the stigmas of society, this day is about promoting self-love and compassion.

Take some time to join in on the fun that comes with even more beauty and diversity during National Plus Size Appreciation Day!

History of National Plus Size Appreciation Day

Established in 2016, National Plus Appreciation Day got its start through the efforts of the folks at Women Rock, Inc., which is a community dedicated to strengthening and empowering women as well as raising awareness about issues that affect women, such as beauty and breast cancer.

This encouraging event acts as a reminder that the world is made up of amazing and beautiful people, but it’s not one-size-fits-all!

How to Celebrate National Plus Size Appreciation Day

Making a difference in the life of even just one person makes it all worth it. Build confidence and embrace the inclusive community spirit through National Plus Size Appreciation Day with some of these ideas:

Attend a Plus Size Fashion Show

One excellent way to get on board with National Plus Size Appreciation Day might be to show support by attending a plus-size fashion show in the local community.

Some larger women might choose to volunteer as models, promoting their favorite designers and fashions for plus-sized women.

If it’s not convenient to attend one in person, perhaps check out some plus-size fashion show videos on YouTube or other online platforms.

Embrace Body Positivity

Get on board with loving everyone – including yourself! – by joining in with National Plus Size Appreciation Day.

Each person can show respect to their own body, changing the narrative from shaming talk to speaking words of affirmation and appreciation for the life this body has carried them through.

Show respect for the beauty of bodies of all shapes and sizes, rather than judging or making assumptions about a person based on their size.

Build a better relationship with the mirror and remember to affirm others along the way too.

Host a Plus Size Appreciation Day Event

Those who don’t have access to a plus-sized event happening in their local area might consider organizing one in the community!

This could be a women’s luncheon or tea, a clothing swap for larger sizes of wardrobe pieces, a live workshop led by a styling guide, and more. Get creative and find out what the plus-sized women in the community would enjoy.

Follow Some Plus Sized Role Models

While many advertisements and other media are filled with smaller people, the world has its share of beautiful, powerful, and amazing role models who are also a bit larger than others in their industry.

In honor of National Plus Size Appreciation Day, check out some of these plus-sized influencers and professionals:

  • Melissa McCarthy, director, screenwriter, actor
  • Queen Latifa, singer, rapper, actor
  • Caralyn Mirand Koch, model
  • Rebel Wilson, actor, producer and screenwriter
