Pet Tech CPR Day is all about keeping pets safe when every second counts. It’s a time when pet owners, animal lovers, and caregivers take a step back and ask, “Would I know what to do if my dog stopped breathing?”

This day centers on learning CPR and first aid for pets—not just in theory, but through real, hands-on practice.

It’s not just about training; it’s about love. People come together to prepare for the scary, unpredictable moments that no one wants, but every pet might face.

Instead of feeling helpless, this day gives people the tools to take action. A calm hand, quick breath, or firm push can restart a heartbeat and bring a pet back from the edge. That’s the heart of it—being ready.

When someone learns these skills, they’re not just checking a box. They’re stepping up for the animals who trust them most.

Every tail wag, soft paw, or head nudge is a little safer because someone cared enough to learn.

How to Celebrate Pet Tech CPR Day

Here are eight expanded ways to celebrate Pet Tech CPR Day and make it meaningful for you and your pets:

Attend a hands-on pet first aid class

Sign up for a local Pet Tech course. Learn CPR, bandaging, choking help, and more.
Instructors guide you step by step, so the skills feel natural.

Practicing with others can make the lessons stick even more.

Put together a pet emergency kit

Gather bandages, antiseptic wipes, a digital thermometer, latex gloves, and vet contact info. Keep it ready at home or in the car.

Label the kit clearly and store it somewhere easy to reach. Review the contents twice a year to replace anything expired or used.

Host a skill-sharing meetup

Invite pet-loving friends. Practice CPR steps on manikins or stuffed toys. Bring snacks and turn it into a casual but useful get-together.

Everyone leaves with better knowledge and a stronger peace of mind.

Spread awareness online

Post a picture after training and include safety tips. Encourage followers to learn pet CPR.
Use simple words so more people understand and act.

Mention where they can sign up for classes near them.

Donate to shelters or rescue groups

Offer funds or supplies to local shelters that train staff in pet CPR. Your support helps extend life-saving skills to more pets.

Call ahead to ask what they need most. Some may even welcome volunteers for special training events.

Schedule an annual refresh session

Plan a quick review of CPR and first aid skills each year. Regular practice helps you stay sharp when emergencies happen.

Even ten minutes can make a difference. Save the date on your calendar to build a habit.

Teach children pet safety basics

Show kids how to check breathing and keep pets calm. Kids learn early that they can help animals stay safe.

Use stuffed animals to make it fun and easy. Reinforce gentle touch and quick thinking through games or stories.

History of Pet Tech CPR Day

Pet Tech CPR Day began in 2018, started by Pet Tech, a group that teaches emergency care for dogs and cats.

Thom Somes and Cindy Velasquez, the founders, created this special day to help pet owners feel ready during scary moments.

They wanted to make pet CPR and first aid easier to learn, even for beginners. Their goal was simple—help people take quick, smart steps when animals face danger.

April 23 was picked to connect with National Pet First Aid Awareness Month. That way, more people could discover the value of being prepared. Since the first event, the day has grown fast.

Trainers, rescue groups, and animal lovers now join workshops or practice skills at home. Some teach others. Some share tips online. Everyone focuses on one clear message: basic care can save pets’ lives.

The training teaches you how to act when a pet can’t breathe, chokes, or becomes unresponsive. These moments happen fast, and knowing what to do can make a huge difference.

Pet Tech CPR Day continues to bring people together to learn, practice, and share. Thanks to strong support and a clear mission, this day keeps growing each year and helps more pets stay safe.
