Most who work for companies have to commute to work, dragging themselves along long stretches of road, stuck in traffic and stressed as a result. History of Telecommuter Appreciation Week

Telecommuter Appreciation Week is about telling people the benefits of telecommuting and how it can help employers and employees be more productive. It was founded by the American Telecommuting Association, an organization that aims to educate people about telecommuting and how they can get the courage to talk to their bosses about this option. The ATA was founded back in 1996 and has since been sending newsletters, giving people the opportunity to see what telecommuting is all about and appreciate the work that telecommuters do for their companies.

According to the ATA and Forbes, there are many ways telecommuting can help employees and employers have better work experiences. Managers that work for small and large companies report that at least ⅔ of their employers and co-workers had a significant increase in productivity overall because it removes distractions, has easier recovery time, and allows a more natural balance of home life and work life. Telecommuting has health benefits as well; it reduces carbon footprints, reduces stress, gain higher morale, and gives older generations higher flexibility to work. For the business, it decreases costs and allows more productive work to be done, including the option for easier overtime work.

How to celebrate Telecommuter Appreciation Week

If you’re interested in the aspect of telecommuting, start by asking your employer about telecommuting opportunities and what the policies are with telecommuting. Learn about whether or not they have the technology to accomplish this opportunity. See if it’s right for you, and if you want, go for it.
