History of Telecommuter Appreciation Week

Celebrated during the week containing telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell’s birthday (March 3rd), Telecommuter Appreciation Week is about telling people the benefits of telecommuting and how it can help employers and employees be more productive.

This event was founded in 1993 by the American Telecommuting Association, an organization that aims to educate people about telecommuting and how they can get the courage to talk to their bosses about this option.

According to the ATA and Forbes, there are many ways telecommuting can help employees and employers have better work experiences. Managers that work for small and large companies report that at least ⅔ of their employers and co-workers had a significant increase in productivity overall because it removes distractions, has easier recovery time, and allows a more natural balance of home life and work life.
