History of the Triumph of the Revolution

The Triumph of the Revolution holiday marks the anniversary of the day that Fidel Castro and his revolutionary forces entered Havana, marking the victory of the Cuban Revolution. This momentous occasion happened on January 1st, 1959, and ever since then, the holiday has been celebrated every year with great fervor and passion.

It all began on July 26, 1953, when a group of young rebels led by Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, and Raul Castro, attacked the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba. The attack failed, but it sparked a revolution that would go on to change the course of Cuban history forever. The revolutionaries were captured and sentenced to prison, but they didn’t let that stop them. They continued to fight for their cause, and in 1955, they were released in an amnesty deal.

With renewed energy and determination, the rebels regrouped and continued their fight for freedom and independence. They fought fiercely against the corrupt government of dictator Fulgencio Batista, and after years of struggle, they finally succeeded in overthrowing him. On January 1st, 1959, after Batista had fled the country the previous day, Fidel, Guevara, and their forces entered Havana, and the people of Cuba rejoiced.
