Steve Carell's birthday
Steven John Carell is one of America’s biggest actors and funniest comedians, whose humor and sarcastic traits show throughout much of his acting.
Born in Concord, Massachusetts, and the youngest of four brothers, Steve was introduced to the world on August 16th, 1962.
His early career before acting
Steve took his first job local to where he grew up, but didn’t last very long. He pursued a short-term career as a USPS mail carrier, but only lasted 7 months in total. Clearly, delivering mail wasn’t for him as, surprisingly, his boss told him he was not great at his job so he had to leave.
The first appearance on stage
Steve’s first-ever performance was not on the screen, but on stage. He featured in a musical, Knat Scatt Private Eye. His first-ever TV appearance was in a 1989 commercial for Brown’s Chicken.
Steve’s first acting role on television was, of course, in comedy, and he starred in the comedy sketch series, The Dana Carvey Show. This show did not last long but it has been said that it helped to somewhat boost Carell’s career.
Landing the first big deal
Steve’s biggest acting deal was when he landed a role in The Office — the American remake of the original British sitcom — in 2005, where he played the role of lovable manager Michael Scott.
Although the first season did not do well, afterwards Steve gained huge success from his feature in the film, The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Because of his success on the back of this, producers decided to give The Office another go and started a second season, which became a huge hit, not only in America but across the globe. During his first year on The Office, Steve won two awards, a Golden Globe and a Television Critics Association Award.
Steve managed to get himself flex time while on the TV show so he could pursue his love for film, and went on to star in the likes of Evan Almighty, Get Smart, and Date Night.
Personal life
Steve married his wife, actress Nancy Wells, in 1995, and they have two children; a daughter, Elisabeth Anne, and a son called John.
Steve’s TV and film career has mixed with Nancy’s a few times, as they have appeared in films and on TV shows together, including in The 40-Year-Old Virgin and The Office.
Although he states his biggest inspirations are the likes of Bill Cosby and Steve Martin, it is clear that Steve Carell, too, has an incredible career and comedic influence on the world.
