We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing

George Bernard Shaw

Kids have so much fun just being in the world! Be a Kid Again Day is the time to embrace that inner childlike spirit and enjoy life from the unique perspective of being a kid again.

About Be A Kid Again Day

Smiles, laughter, playing, and taking naps. That’s what childhood is all about! Kids often have a simplicity about them that embraces curiosity, encourages wonder, and delights in the simplest of things.

Whether it’s playing tag, eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on white bread, or reading a favorite book from childhood, Be a Kid Again Day is the time to celebrate everything that made life so easy years ago.

How to Celebrate Be a Kid Again Day

Be a Kid Again Day offers adults the opportunity to simply enjoy the silly, simple and ridiculous. Try out some of these ideas for celebrating:

Enjoy Some Kids’ Activities

Swing on a swing. Take a turn down the slide. Spin on a merry-go-round. Jump barefoot through a creek. Lie in the grass and watch the clouds go by, imagining what their shapes make. Watch an ant hill. Jump through a sprinkler.

Keep it simple. Be a Kid Again Day is full of all kinds of opportunities to do things that normally it might be frowned upon for adults to do. Take advantage of them and embrace that inner child.

Watch a Movie about Being a Kid Again

Need to get inspired? Try out one of these films that are in the spirit of Be a Kid Again Day:

  • Opposite Day (2009). When a kid wishes on a star, he wakes up to find that adults have become like children and the kids are in charge of the world. Starring Pauly Shore, Ariel Winter and Billy Unger.
  • Big (1988). A kid makes a wish to become “big” when he’s too small for a ride at the amusement park. Tom Hanks plays a boy who finds himself in an adult body and shows what it looks like for a grown man to be like a kid again!
  • 13 Going on 30 (2004). This time, Jennifer Garner shows what it’s like to play the part of a kid when her character turns into a 30 year old on her 13th birthday.

Make a Donation to ‘A Kid Again’ Charity

One way to observe this day might be making a donation to a charity. A Kid Again is a non-profit organization in the USA that provides fun-filled adventures for families of kids with life-threatening illnesses. It allows the children, their parents and siblings to simply let loose and enjoy some fun. This is especially important for kids who have had to grow up too soon due to illness, surgeries, hospital visits and treatments.

Improving the well-being of the whole family affected by illness, A Kid Again has a dedicated volunteer network and provides comprehensive, practical support in addition to adventures and activities.
