National Honey Day
National Honey Day is here to celebrate and promote the sourcing and enjoyment of local honey!
According to the International Trade Centre, the UK imported an average of 50,917 tonnes of honey in 2023.
The British Beekeepers Association hopes to change this by encouraging more people to source their honey locally.
This concept can be applied not only to the UK, but to people everywhere on National Honey Day.
How to Celebrate National Honey Day
Purchase a Jar of Local Honey
The very best way to get on board with celebrating National Honey Day would be to support a local beekeeper by purchasing a jar of honey.
Honey is a delightful additive to a cup of tea, eaten on toast, or used in a wide range of delicious recipes. It’s a delicious and nutritious alternative to simple sugar.
Learn Some Benefits of Local Honey
An ideal activity in honor of this day might be to get more educated about the reasons why buying and consuming local honey is a good idea. For instance, consider a few of these benefits:
Support your local community and economy by keeping the finances right in the neighborhood or local area – this can also foster an important community connection.
Reduce waste and the environmental impact of shipping by getting your honey (and other goods too!) from local beekeepers, growers and farmers.
Some people have found that consuming local honey also has health benefits, particularly providing relief from allergens when consumed regularly.
Get Creative with Honey
National Honey Day is just the right time to try a new recipe that includes honey.
From savory flavors like honey-glazed ham and honey mustard chicken, to tempting baked goods like baklava thumbprint cookies, honey brings all sorts of nuances to recipes.
You can even infuse it into your butter to use on biscuits or homemade bread!
Try out a few of these interesting ideas for dishes with honey:
• Grilled Nectarines with Burrata and Honey
• Honey Infused Corn Bread
• Honey Berry Sheet Cake
• Spicy Honey Sriracha Dip

Whether you’ve decided to cook up a new recipe that includes honey or you’ve found a new supplier from a local beekeeper, National Honey Day is a great time to share the news with the world!
Hop into Instagram or your favorite social media platform and share photos of your honey jar and a favorite way you use it. Don’t forget to tag your local honey supplier in the post, of course.
History of National Honey Day
Founded by the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA), this event got its start in the UK in 2022.
The desire behind the day was to promote the benefits of local honey, as well as to raise awareness about the concept of honey authenticity.
The BBKA offers a few different online resources for those who are interested in promoting the day in their communities.
For instance, in 2024, the “Bee Smart, Choose Local” campaign offered printable posters and other ideas to help make the day super special for all.
