History of National Menudo Month

National Menudo Month began in 2018, launched by Juanita’s Foods, a company based in California. Known for their ready-to-eat Mexican meals, they created the event to shine a light on menudo and its deep cultural roots.

To kick things off, they made history by preparing a pot of menudo that weighed over 2,400 pounds. This huge dish set a Guinness World Record and brought a lot of attention to the celebration.

The idea caught on quickly. Cities with strong Mexican-American communities joined in, giving the event local support. In Los Angeles, the mayor attended a finale event where guests were served the record-setting menudo.

Houston followed by officially recognizing the month as well. Each year since, people have used this time to come together over a bowl of the beloved soup.

National Menudo Month isn’t just about food. It’s about honoring the time, care, and tradition behind each pot. Cooking menudo can take hours, but many say it’s worth the effort.

With each passing year, the month continues to grow, reminding communities across the country that food often carries the stories of home, family, and culture in every bite. Juanita’s kick-started it, but now it belongs to everyone who loves the dish.
