National Sour Candy Day
With loads and loads of different types of delicious candy available in the world, this day is devoted to one type of sweet treat in particular – sour candy!
National Sour Candy Day offers an opportunity for all lovers of sour candy to appreciate, enjoy and celebrate this delectable treat.
History of National Sour Candy Day
Super sour candies can be traced back to the 1950s and 1960s. Lemonheads, those sour little lemon flavored candies actually included real lemon juice in their recipe, which makes a lot of sense because citric acid can certainly make the mouth pucker.
The 1970s and 1980s were particularly important years for the promotion and growth of the sour candy market. Sour Patch Kids were first introduced in the late 1970s in Ontario, Canada, making their way to the US in the mid-1980s.
Trolli brand sour gummy worms were invented in Germany in the ‘80s. Warheads were also invented in the ‘70s, in Taiwan, and were then brought to the United States in 1993.
Founded in 2015 by the American Licorice Company, National Sour Candy Day gives a salute to those mouth-puckering fruit flavors that can make your eyes water! American Licorice Company is the maker of a line of sour candies, such as Sour Punch, Sour Straws and more.
