How to Celebrate Cloth Nappy Week

Cloth Nappy Week invites people to pause, reflect, and explore more conscious ways to care for babies and the planet.

Begin with One Thoughtful Change

Start small by using just one cloth nappy a day. Notice the difference in texture, comfort, and your baby’s response.

Slow shifts often create lasting habits. Focus on the feeling of choosing something gentle for both your child and the earth.

Gather for Shared Learning

Invite others into a calm, open conversation about reusable nappies. Create a relaxed space to ask questions and exchange stories.

Each parent brings unique experiences. Listening without judgment builds confidence and community.

Choose to Support Thoughtfully

Purchase from brands or makers that align with your values. Seek out businesses that care deeply about sustainability and fairness.

When you buy with purpose, you invest in more than just a product—you support mindful change across a whole system.

Join Digital Spaces That Uplift

Participate in online gatherings that encourage curiosity over perfection. Look for virtual meetups or forums rooted in kindness and encouragement.

Learning together reminds us we’re not alone in the effort to do better.

Give with Intention

Pass on nappies your baby has outgrown with care and thoughtfulness. Offer them to someone who may appreciate the support.

Acts like this ripple through communities, creating quiet connections rooted in generosity and shared purpose.

History of Cloth Nappy Week

Cloth Nappy Week began in the UK in 1997.

Organisers from the Women’s Environmental Network, the Real Nappy Association, and the National Association of Nappy Services joined forces to launch that first week.

They aimed to raise awareness of reusable nappies and reduce reliance on single‑use diapers. A steering group now manages the event each year with support from many eco‑parenting organisations across the UK.

Reusable Nappy Week first ran from April 21 to April 27 in its debut year. It helped parents explore alternatives to disposables through events, media promotion, and community action.

By its tenth iteration, in 2006, it drew nearly nine hundred supporters, including local councils and elected officials. Early momentum pushed organisers to extend the campaign globally over time.

Modern cloth diapering has roots much earlier. In the late 1800s, parents used folded cotton or linen held with pins.

After World War II, diaper laundry services became common as more women joined the workforce. The reuse tradition continued in later decades as environmental concerns grew.

Cloth Nappy Week honors that legacy in simple, everyday terms. It encourages families to try reusable nappies, spot benefits for the planet and baby, and rethink convenience culture.

It keeps active voices, informative activities, and helpful tips at the centre of the conversation across many countries today.
