The International Day of Clean Energy is celebrated every January 26. This day is a call from the United Nations to increase awareness and take action regarding clean energy.

This date was chosen to honor the founding anniversary of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in 2009. Thus, it signifies the agency’s pivotal role in driving the global transition towards renewable energy. 

The establishment of this day by the United Nations General Assembly, with the support of countries like the UAE and Panama, emphasizes the urgent need for a collective move towards clean energy to combat climate change, enhance human welfare, and ensure energy security, access, and equity​​​​​​​​.
