History of Kansas Day
Kansas Day began in 1877 in a small classroom in Paola, Kansas. A group of curious students had been learning about the United States and noticed the day Kansas officially joined the country.
They grew excited about their state’s story and wanted to learn more. Their teacher, Alexander LeGrande Copley, encouraged this interest.
He later became a school leader in Wichita and helped spread the idea of celebrating Kansas Day in more classrooms.
