Pansexual Awareness Day
In a 2016 Harris Poll survey of 2,000 US adults commissioned by GLAAD, two percent of 18-34 year-olds self-identified as Pansexual and approximately one percent in all other age groups.
It is for this demographic of people that Pansexual Awareness and Visibility Day was founded!
How to Celebrate Pansexual Awareness and Visibility Day
Looking for ideas on how to get involved with Pansexual Awareness and Visibility Day? Check out a few of these ideas to get started:
Wear the Pansexual Flag Colors
Have fun and show support for Pansexual Awareness and Visibility Day by wearing bright pink, yellow and blue, which are the colors of the flag.
Whether dressing in an outfit of these colors or hanging a flag on the front lawn, this is a great way to show support.
Understand Pansexuality Better
For those who perhaps are not part of the LGBTQ+ community or are not familiar with the unique identities, it might be useful to brush up on the distinctions and definitions on the spectrum.
On this day, it might be helpful to remember that pansexuality is when gender pays little or no part in whether they are sexually attracted to someone.
Instead of being concerned about whether a person is binary or not, people who identify as pansexual might say that they are simply attracted to humans.
In addition, people who are pansexual may refer to themselves as queer, or as any gender, and they are unlikely to be concerned if their partner’s gender identity changes.
Use Correct Language
One excellent way to show honor and appreciation for those in the LGBTQ+ community.
If you aren’t sure which term they prefer or how they want to be identified, just kindly ask as a sign of respect.
Seek to Listen
Those who aren’t sure how to celebrate this day might start by learning and listening.
This might be especially true of those who may not identify as pansexual but are interested in being more supportive of those in the community.
This is a great time to remember that every human being has inherent value and deserves to be loved and celebrated, no matter how they identify. This is a great day to celebrate and make an effort to create a more inclusive society.
