Say Hi Day
Say Hi Day is a celebration of a simple word that can spark joy and connection. It honors Joseph Anthony Cinotti, a teenager with special needs who greeted everyone he met with a cheerful “hi.”
His warm approach left a lasting impression on his community. This day encourages people to follow his example by reaching out to others with a friendly greeting. A small word can brighten someone’s mood and create a sense of belonging.
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to overlook the power of a simple hello. Say Hi Day reminds us to slow down and acknowledge those around us.
Whether it’s a neighbor, a colleague, or a stranger, a friendly greeting can make a difference.
This day promotes kindness and inclusivity, showing that everyone matters. By saying hi, we open the door to new connections and a more caring community.

History of Say Hi Day
Say Hi Day began in 2021 to celebrate a simple habit that left a lasting mark—greeting others with a cheerful “hi.” Joseph Anthony Cinotti, a teenager with special needs, inspired this day.
He greeted everyone with warmth and kindness, no matter who they were. Joseph passed away in 2018 at just 15 years old. His family and community wanted to keep his spirit alive.
To do that, they created the Say Hi Foundation in 2019. Their mission was to spread kindness the same way Joseph did—through small, friendly actions. The idea gained momentum, and in May 2021, Summer Luciani registered Say Hi Day with the National Day Archives.
The first official celebration happened on June 11, 2021. Events and activities around that date encouraged people to reach out, greet others, and help everyone feel seen and included.
Since then, the day has grown. Schools, neighborhoods, and social groups across the country now take part. The goal remains the same: use one simple word to bring people together.
Say Hi Day continues to carry Joseph’s joyful message forward—treat others with kindness and never underestimate the power of a friendly hello. Each year, more people take part and keep his memory alive through connection.
