When everyone and everything around you is in a hurry but you’re having trouble keeping up with communication, it’s a kindness for the world to slow down just a notch.
And that’s what Talk Slow Day is all about!
How to Celebrate Talk Slow Day
Considering plans for how to get involved with this important awareness day? Get creative on your own and at your workplace, or check out a few of these ideas to get started with:
Slow Down
Some people are just fast talkers by nature, others may come by it through familial or cultural experiences.
Some might be worried that if they don’t speak quickly, people will stop listening. Still others may just always be in a hurry in everything they do!
People from regions of the United States are prone to speak more quickly, such as in the upper Midwest and the Northeast.
On the other hand, those from the south are often known to speak more slowly, sometimes in a ‘drawl’.
Wherever you’re from, Talk Slow Day is here to act as a reminder that you can still get your point across – maybe even better – when you slow down!

History of Talk Slow Day
National Talk Slow Day got its start in 2024 when it was founded by the Mid-Atlantic Aphasia Conference.
The purpose behind the event is to encourage people to have better communication with each other by slowing down the way that they speak.
In particular, this day was founded in special consideration of those who struggle with communication because of neurological issues or disorders, including aphasia, stroke, brain tumor, head trauma and more.
People who are impacted by certain diseases that affect the brain, such as Alzheimer’s, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis may also benefit from those around them practicing slower speech and communication.
