How to Celebrate World ThickShake Day
Get excited about the joy, memories and togetherness that can be shared on this day over thick shakes! Check out a few of these ideas for getting involved:
Enjoy a Thick Shake
While it might not be an option for everyone to head over to the original Uncle Sunhil’s thick shake shop in India, it is still possible to enjoy a thick shake!
Hop over to a local ice creamery and try a chocolate, strawberry or some other flavor of thick shake that you love. Even better, grab a friend and enjoy a thick ice cream shake together.
Make Thick Shakes at Home
Scoop up some ice cream, milk, and flavorings, then throw them in a blender. Voila! A yummy thick shake for yourself or to share with a family member.
Toss in some fruit syrups, chocolate, caramel or some other favorite add-ins and grab a spoon for the best results.
Enjoy Some Thick Shake Art Projects
Get creative and have some fun promoting World ThickShake Day by inviting the kids to help create some art projects.
Have some fun with sketching, painting or even collage projects. Make some posters, or post graphic art online, letting others on social media know that it’s time to celebrate this amazing day.
History of World ThickShake Day
The dream for World ThickShake Day was started in the summer of 1999 when three friends in India were dragged down by college exams and would escape to enjoy a thick ice cream shake.
Their favorite place to imbibe this treat was at Uncle Sunhil’s ice cream shop, near Fatehgunj.
But actually, the background dates back much further to when Uncle Sunhil first opened his ice cream shop – on the first Friday in June in 1955.
Since that time, Sunhil had always celebrated this event alone each year, calling it “Friday the Flavorful”.
When the students found out that Uncle Sunhil celebrated so quietly, they decided to start making a big deal out of it!
The three friends went into full Bollywood mode and started celebrating ThickShake Day. From composing delightful poems to making giant art with spoons and glasses, the joy of the event became contagious.
It was a celebration of togetherness, creativity, and a break from the ordinary! After the shop became so alive on this day, Uncle Sunhil declared, “for years I thought I was serving dessert. But it turns out, I was serving memories.”
It all started small, with one older man’s individual celebration that grew through the dream of three college friends.
Today, more than 20 years later, thousands of people across India – and even the world – are raising their glass (and spoon!) to celebrate World ThickShake Day in some amazing ways.
