Your guide to celebrating December 5 2018
Skip to all 11 daysA boot outside the door is the first clue that December 5 has taken a wonderfully strange turn. For Krampusnacht, borrow from Central European winter folklore and set out a boot for a St. Nicholas-style surprise. Add a small bundle of birch twigs at the doorway, then look for a local Krampuslauf. Those horned costumes should make the neighborhood’s usual holiday decorations seem rather tame.
Keep the costume closet open for International Ninja Day. Wearing black is an easy start, and friends who enjoy ninja lore can join your stealthy crew. Follow the costume stroll with a classic ninja movie, preferably with fewer dramatic entrances than the Krampus crowd managed.
International Ninja Day
Stealthily slip into black attire to channel your inner ancient warrior, gather your gang of like-minded spies and binge some classic ninja movies.
All that lurking and folklore needs cake. Sacher-Torte Day supplies a rich chocolate dessert with a fruity layer, fitting neatly into this Austrian-inspired evening. Make one or order a slice to share. A dark, glossy cake looks right at home beside the birch decoration, although it belongs safely on a plate rather than hanging by the door.
Sacher-Torte Day
Indulging in a decadent dessert that harmoniously blends rich chocolate and a hint of fruity sweetness, creating a symphony of flavors.
Once the costumes are put away, Bathtub Party Day offers the warmest possible finale. Run a bath, add plenty of bubbles and settle in after the chilly make-believe. You can relax solo or keep company with someone nearby while you soak. The boot can wait outside, the cake plate can wait by the sink, and any lurking horned visitors will simply have to come back later.

There’s nothing quite like soaking in warm, bubbling water with friends or alone. It’s a relaxing way to unwind and melt your troubles away!
