Your guide to celebrating October 14 2014
Skip to all 9 daysOctober 14 is made for turning the kitchen into a tiny sweet-treat workshop, complete with a fluffy assistant and a toy that keeps moving even when you take a break.
Pick one favorite for National Dessert Day and make it from scratch. A lemon tart gives you plenty to fuss over, while chocolate mousse keeps the project cool and spoon-friendly. If friends or family want in, turn the whole thing into a friendly bake-off and appoint yourself extremely serious judge.
National Real Sugar Day supplies the key ingredient. Choose a recipe where sugar caramelizes, so the workshop gets that deep sweetness and a little kitchen drama when the color begins to change.

While the tart cools or the mousse chills, take an International Top Spinning Day break. Make a simple top yourself, then see how long you can keep it upright. A bit of wobbling only makes the contest more interesting.
