History of National Hazy Ipa Day
National Hazy IPA Day began in 2023. Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. teamed up with National Day Calendar to create it.
They launched the day to shine a light on one of the fastest-growing beer styles in the U.S. Hazy IPAs, also called New England-style IPAs, have a cloudy look and bold, juicy flavor. Unlike clear, bitter IPAs, these brews offer a softer feel and a burst of fruity taste.
The third Thursday of August now marks this hop-forward celebration. Sierra Nevada played a key role, as they helped bring hazy beers into the spotlight with their “Hazy Little Thing” IPA.
Their goal was to honor the creativity behind hazy brews and give fans a reason to enjoy them together. Since its start, breweries across the country have joined in, offering limited releases, events, and tastings.
People responded quickly. The day became more than a beer promotion. It turned into a moment to share, explore, and learn about a style that keeps evolving.
From small local brewers to major beer makers, many take part in the fun. National Hazy IPA Day celebrates not only the drink but also the people who make and enjoy it in new, flavorful ways.
