How to Celebrate Friendship Day in India

Friendship Day in India is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the special bonds we share with our closest friends. Here are some fun and creative ways to make the day memorable.

Plan a Themed Brunch

Start the day with a delicious brunch at a cozy cafe or a homemade spread in your living room. Choose a theme that resonates with your group, like a retro Bollywood or a favorite travel destination.

Add fun decorations and music to set the mood for a lively morning filled with laughter and good food.

Host a Movie Marathon

Gather your friends for a movie marathon featuring films that hold special memories for your group. It could be a selection of nostalgic hits from your school days or a watch session of a beloved TV series.

Make it cozy with lots of popcorn, blankets, and your favorite drinks.

Get Creative with DIY Crafts

If you enjoy hands-on activities, organize a DIY craft party. Create personalized friendship bracelets, paint canvases, or put together scrapbooks filled with your favorite moments.

This is a great way to express your creativity while making something meaningful to keep as a souvenir.

Organize a Game Night

Host a game night with a variety of board games, card games, or even video games. Friendly competition is a great way to bond and create hilarious memories.

You can even set up themed snacks and small prizes for the winners to add more excitement to the event.

Plan an Outdoor Adventure

For those who love the outdoors, consider planning a day trip for a hike, picnic, or even an adventurous activity like zip-lining. Being out in nature can be refreshing and provide the perfect backdrop for deep conversations and shared experiences.

History of Friendship Day in India

Friendship Day in India has its roots in a marketing idea by Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards, back in 1930. He proposed the concept to promote the exchange of greeting cards among friends, choosing August 2 as the initial date.

Although the day did not catch on in the United States due to its commercial origins, it gained popularity in several other countries, including India.

In 1958, a group in Paraguay proposed an International Friendship Day, and it was celebrated worldwide. Later, in 2011, the United Nations officially declared July 30 as International Friendship Day.

However, India, along with a few other countries, observes Friendship Day on the first Sunday of August each year. This day has become a beloved occasion to celebrate the unique bond of friendship, transcending boundaries of age, religion, and culture.

In India, Friendship Day involves exchanging friendship bands and gifts, reflecting the love and appreciation friends have for each other.

The day has grown in popularity, especially among the youth, who embrace it with enthusiasm through social media posts, meet-ups, and parties.

This evolution shows how a simple idea has turned into a widely celebrated day, highlighting the importance of friendship in our lives.
