Protect an early finish if your schedule allows: close out the task that must be done, set an out-of-office reply if appropriate, and put the evening on the calendar as a real plan. Use the reclaimed hour for one useful errand, then stop. Pick up ground beef, cheese, buns, lettuce, onion, pickles, and a bag of potato chips, or order from a favorite local burger spot before the dinner rush. The point is a meal with room to spare, not an elaborate project.

Why even have that dreaded last hour of the workday? Plan ahead and get yourself ready to finish the day early so you can head out at 4pm instead of 5pm.
Make the cheeseburgers your way. Form loosely packed quarter-pound patties, season them with salt and pepper just before they hit a hot skillet or grill, and cook about four minutes per side for medium, adjusting for thickness. Add a slice of cheese during the final minute and cover briefly so it melts. Put toppings in small bowls so everyone can choose, then serve the burgers with chips, oven fries, or a crisp salad. A toppings bar also makes a takeout order feel like an occasion rather than food in a bag.
If you want a bottle for the table, choose a Grenache with the burger, especially one topped with caramelized onions, mushrooms, or a little barbecue sauce. Its berry-forward character and gentle spice work nicely with smoky, salty food. Chill the bottle for 20 minutes before opening, pour a small taste first, and keep sparkling water on the table too.

Host a grenache day event with friends and family and enjoy different vintages of this excellent wine that hails originally from Aragon, Spain.
Rice Krispies treats take about 15 minutes and leave very little cleanup. Melt 3 tablespoons of butter with a 10-ounce bag of marshmallows over low heat, stir in 6 cups of crisp rice cereal, and press the mixture into a buttered 9-by-13-inch pan. Let it cool while you clear dinner, then cut squares with a buttered knife. Make them plain, or scatter a few chocolate chips over the top after the pan has cooled slightly. Pack any extras in an airtight container for a ready-made snack on another day.

A simple and delicious dessert or snack to enjoy, Rice Krispies Treats Day celebrates everything that has to do with this crunchy, tasty, marshmallow delight!
